United Church Earth Stewards (UCES) consists of representatives from each of the five United Churches in the Central Fraser Valley: Trinity Memorial, Gladwin Heights and Mount Lehman in Abbotsford. Aldergrove United in Aldergrove and St.Andrew’s in Mission. Our main purpose has been one of advocacy for the environment and for measures to combat climate change. These issues include: Rail for the Valley (a proposal to reinstate the interurban rail line), sue Big Oil and a variety of other issues related to salmon habitat and local industrial pollution.
Our main project has been, and still is, our keen partnership with the City of Abbotsford in planting trees in an urban forest within the city, in order to combat the loss of tree canopy. The City has plans to plant 100,000 trees in Willband Creek Park, along Highway #11. The trails around the ponds and up the adjacent hill already provide a lovely walk. We look forward to the growth of this forest , which will become the home for diverse wildlife. United Church Earth Stewards have helped to plant thousands of trees since 2019, mostly in Willband Park.
We rely on donations to fund the planting of trees and have annual fundraisers to gather contributions for the Tree Fund. You can help by making a donation through CANADA HELPS. There is a donation link on the Trinity Memorial United Church Web-site: Click Donate. Alternatively, look up CANADA HELPS on the internet, specify Trinity Memorial United Church and (as above) indicate: for the Tree Fund.
ALTERNATELY: write a cheque to Trinity Memorial United Church and specify: for the Tree Fund on the cheque. The cheque can be dropped in the Church mail slot or mailed to: Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, B.C., V2S 2M4. A charitable donation receipt will be issued.
If you wish to honour someone with your donation, let us know the name and we will put it on a banner on the Web-site.
